Doug Souza is a self taught artist who has developed his art free from the academic influences of the '60's.

"I tried art school in 1969 and both of my instructors kept trying to sell me LSD to loosen up my art. 'Way too stiff and structured', they said. They both looked like they hadn't had a bath in two weeks. I left....The best art education I could ever get. LOL".

In 2010, he showed his work in New York City at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden.

So many nice people and their dogs!

I have since done quite a few dog portraits and get great satisfaction from the owners, when they see their  finished piece.

My Studio

My studio is in our home, in Gardnerville, Nevada. It has all the amenities any artist could ask for. A drawing table, easels, two computers, high def. TV and tool chests packed with enough art supplies to last a couple lifetimes.

Gardnerville is located 14 miles East of Lake Tahoe, at the base of the Eastern slope of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains, in the Carson Valley. 

I am now represented by The Lone Tree Gallery in Gardnerville, Nevada and Pacific Crest Gallery at the Heavenly Resort in South Lake Tahoe.

After living in Woodland, California for the first sixty years of my life, I decided to move to Gardnerville, Nevada to further my career as an artist.

I live in the beautiful Carson Valley with my wife, Linda and our lab, JJ.

We are members of the Tahoe Art League and stay pretty busy exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains and all they have to offer. There's plenty of subject matter for my work and plenty of lakes and rivers for JJ to swim in.
